A MOOC: E-Learning and environment design (Peer review for final project

This month, I participated in a MOOC on E-learning and environment design. The reasons why I participate in this MOOC because I keen to develop e-materials for education in Indonesia, especially in foreign language learning. As a participant in that MOOC, we require to create a project for our final project and we have to give feedback for what others have done. I am assigned to give peer feedbacks for three MOOC participants. Participant 1 She designed a course named Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) Second Language Acquisition. The course is designed for language learners and teachers of languages. Among the e-learning model, she applied ASSURE model in her MOOC. The design is quite complete. She put assignments, discussions, grades, pages, files, syllabus, quizzes, modules, conferences, and collaborations as the menu of the MOOC. Effective Extensive Reading Outside the Classroom: A Large-Scale Experiment

Extensive Reading atau yang sering disebut dengan ER cukup menarik dan sudah ada beberapa penelitian terkait, baik itu dalam skala besar maupun dalam skala kecil. Kali ini, saya akan meringkas jurnal yang ditulis oleh Thomas Robb dan Makimi Kano dari Kyoto Sangyo University, Jepang.  Konsep ER yang mereka gunakan adalah siswa membaca diluar jam pembelajaran sebagai prasyarat mata kuliah yang mereka ambil. Jadi, sifatnya wajib. Terdapat dua kelompok siswa, yakni angkatan 2008 dan 2009 yang masing-masing akan mengikuti pretest dan posttest. Angkatan 2008 adalah siswa yang tidak melakukan kegiatan membaca di luar jam belajar dan angkatan 2009 adalah mereka yang melakukan kegiatan ER di luar jam belajar.  Research question: 1. Do students who do ER outside the classroom as additional work achieve higher reading scores compared to the students who are not required to do?
