Where to shop in Dili, Timor Leste

A worry is normal when someone decide to more to new developing country, like Timor Leste. But, you do not need to worry that much because there are some supermarkets where you can do your grocery shopping. Here are some places that I could mentions:
a.       W-Four Supermarket
b.      Lita Store
c.       Centro Supermarket
d.      Pateo Supermarket
e.      Kemanek Supermarket

W-Four Supermarket, Lita Supermarket and Kemanek Supermarkets usually offer competitive prices for their products, mostly those which are expired in month. Make sure you check the expired date before you buy it. Pateo Supermarket and Centro Supermarket are the expensive one because most of the product are imported from Portugal and they sell fresh meat. I observe that more foreigners shop at Pateo Supermarket compared to others. You can find easily any supermarket other than those mentioned above. Those five are the supermarkets that I ever visited during my stay in Timor Leste.
If you are looking for cheaper price for the same products, I would suggest you to go to traditional market. The biggest one is in Taibesi and usually Timorese call it Taibesi Mercado. You can find vegetables, meat, herbs and fruits there. There are two parts of Taibesi. The western part and the eastern part. The western part is the one which near the yard. In the western part, you can find many vegetables, such as cabbage, eggplant, cauliflower, carrot, potatoes and many more. On the other hand, you will find long bean, coconut shred, banana and blend chili on the eastern part.
Timor Leste is rich of their fishes and you can buy fish with few bucks. You can buy fresh fish along the Pantai Kelapa Street or you can go to Bebonouk, near the Pertamina area. My suggestion is you need to bargain when you want to buy fish in the street.
