Indonesian as A Foreign Language (IFL) Workshop with APBIPA Bali and Universitas Islam Indonesia
Hi there...
This time I am going to share with you my experience joining Indonesian as a Foreign Language Teaching Specialist hosted by APBIPA Bali and Universitas Islam Indonesia (UII).
This workshop was held for three days and most of the activities were applicable.
There were two trainers in this workshop and those were Mr. Nyoman Riasa and Mr. Herman Felani. Mr. Nyoman is an IFL and EFL teacher and he ever worked in IALF Bali. He offers practical skills which can be used by IFL teaching specialists. The other trainer is Mr. Herman, he works as a program manager at UII and he ever taught IFL in Kalimantan and in Yogyakarta.
By joining the workshops, I learned many things both from Pak Nyoman and Mas Herman. Pak Nyoman taught me to design a simple material but can be used for many interesting activities for different skills. For example, some blocks of tables can be used to teach alphabets, spelling, listening, writing, and concentration. The other example is about a ball. As a teacher, we can use a ball to teach students speakings.
I also learn that students center is not about what the teacher will teach but it is about what the students will learn, what the students will do and many more. Teachers have to think about what activities will be done by their students, what the students will learn not what the teacher will teach. Class activities itself can be done inside the classroom and outside the classroom and combine with the natural values. During this workshop, we visited a newly founded temple in library complex. This is a Hindu temple and this is one of workers temple. I learned from Pak Nyoman about Hisdust cultures since he is from Bali. This cultural understanding should be involved in IFL class because it has closed relation in Indonesia.
I really recommended any teachers to participate in the similar workshops hosted by Pak Nyoman and APBIPA Bali because they give what participants can't gain before they teach. He also shares his experiences in teaching IFL and EFL, materials, networks and the most important is we become family. After joining this workshop, I feel fresher about IFL and gain more knowledge from him, and meet more friends who have the similar interest in IFL.
Again, if you have an opportunity to participate in any IFL or EFL workshop, it is really recommended to participate APBIPA Bali workshop. It is true that you need pay and the amount is quite big for me, but it is nothing because you will get many things from this workshop.
Hope to see you in Pak Nyoman workshop :).
